O'Donell St. Apartments
Location
Old San Juan

Description
This project involved the renovation of a historic apartment building located within the protected historic district of Old San Juan. The structure reflects the characteristic Spanish Colonial architectural fabric of the area, with neoclassical influences, requiring a sensitive and context-driven design approach. The scope of work included the restoration of the building façade, ensuring the preservation of its architectural character, proportions, and material integrity in accordance with regulatory standards. Designs were carefully developed to be compatible with the historic context in terms of scale, detailing, and artistry. All interventions were carried out in compliance with the guidelines and review processes of the "Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña" (ICP) and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), ensuring that the proposed work met established criteria for interventions within historic districts. This included new architectural elements that could be differentiated from original historic elements, yet were contextually appropriate within a historic urban setting.
